QSeek is a powerful tool with a single goal: simplify your life.
QSeek automatically launches with Windows and hides itself in your system tray. To show the QSeek interface, press Control+Alt+Q. You will land on the Query box. This box is where you input the definition, calculation, etc. that you wish found. It will automatically paste any string from the clipboard should there be any, and will display all of your successfully completed queries by pressing the up and down arrow keys. The next control is the query type Combo Box. This control allows you to select from all the functions for your query, E.G. Define, synonyms, etc. After that is the go button, which can be activated from almost anywhere in the window by pressing enter. The last control is the result panel, which has the result of your query once completed. When finished with the window, you may leave it by pressing Alt+F4.
QSeek can perform many functions. The bulk of this document describes them.
Define asks for a single word, and provides all definitions for that given word in the result panel.
Synonyms and antonyms are separate query types, but displayed here together because their operation is the same. Typing a single word in the Query box provides up to 5 synonyms or antonyms in the result panel.
QSeek has an incredibly powerful calculator built in. It supports the standard operations, such as + - * and /, but also exponentiation, factorial, and more. It also understands the concept of pi, variables, standard trigonometric functions, and more.
QSeek includes a powerful spell checker so you never have to worry about figuring out how to spell that complex word. Enter how you think the word is spelled, select the Spellchecker option from the query type combo box and press enter. You will be presented with a list of possible corrections in the results panel.
Translate accepts a string of text, which is translated into the default language of your system. If your systems default language is, for example, English, then QSeek will automatically detect the language you are translating from and translate the text back to English.
QSeek looks up an entire article on Wikipedia. Provide the name of the article, and the result panel will display it.
Manpage is short for manual page, and is the default form of documentation for Linux. QSeek’s source for manpages is Hurricane Electric, so any manpage in Hurricane Electrics library will be displayed here when you enter its name.
Stock Quote accepts a ticker symbol, such as BBY. It will not accept a full company name, E.G. Best Buy co. It will show the last trade price as well as the time of the last trade in the result panel, along with the accompanying index, E.G. NYSe.
AN irreverent dictionary for humorous purposes, QSeek will show the definitions of a given string in the result panel. These definitions are not serious and are only suitable for mature audiences.
Portable mode allows you to run QSeek from any folder on your computer: Dropbox, USB storage devices, and more. If you have purchased QSeek, you will be required to perform a one-time product activation on every new computer you use the application on. Your settings and other information will be preserved between portable runs of the application and saved in the folder user_data inside the application's folder.
QSeek has an automatic update feature. It will check for a newer version every time it is started, as well as every 2 hours. To disable the automatic update feature, add --disable-autoupdate to the application command line. Note: this flag does not work with beta versions of QSeek.
